Nancy Rae Stuempges 90, of Coon Valley, died Thursday, April 6, 2023 at Lakeview Health Care in West Salem.
She was born December 29, 1932 in Whitehall, to Raymond and Helen (Wood) Ringstad. The Ringstad family moved from Whitehall to Coon Valley in 1940 where Nancy’s father ran the lumberyard. Nancy graduated from Westby High School in 1951. Her senior year, she was runner-up for the Westby Snowflake Ski Queen. On February 28, 1953 she married the love of her life, Larry Stuempges in Coon Valley.
As a young woman Nancy worked at the Coon Valley Creamery and helped Larry raise tobacco. Later she worked in the billing department at Gundersen Clinic for 15 years. Nancy had a beautiful voice and loved to sing, loved to cook and take care of her home. Family, friends and religion were the most important things in Nancy’s life,
Nancy is survived by her two sons, Brian (Kathy) of La Crosse and Bruce (Patty) of Coon Valley; three grandchildren, Ryan (Shelley), Jason (Hannah) and Kory (Joe); five great grandchildren, Maddex, Parker, Aubriana, Evelyn and Andrew. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Larry.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday April 15, 2023 at the Coon Valley Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until service time. The Seland Funeral Home is assisting the family. Condolences may be given at selandsfuneralhome.com.
