Wayne A. Voelker

September 28, 1937 — March 20, 2012

Wayne A. Voelker, 74, of rural Ferryville, died Tuesday March 20, 2012 at his home. He was born September 28, 1937 to Walter and Bernita (Leslein) Voelker in rural Westgate, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at Hope Lutheran Church. While attending rural country school, Wayne came to know his Lord and Savior thanks to Rural Bible Crusade coming to the school. He graduated from Maynard High School in 1955 and went on to serve his country in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1958.

On September 30, 1961 he married Jane Nuss at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye, Iowa. Wayne worked for John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works, retiring in 1986 as a Utilities Engineer. The couple then moved to the farm near Retreat. Wayne was a member of Bad Axe Lutheran Church and Vernon/Crawford Gideon Camp. He enjoyed being involved in the Lansing, Iowa Men's Prayer Breakfast group and the Bad Axe Men's Fellowship. Wayne cherished time spent with family and friends and enjoyed hunting, fishing and trips to Alaska and Bibleville

Survivors include his wife, Jane; 2 sons Jeff (Susan) of Holmen and Brian (Nancy) of DeSoto; grandchildren Adrienne (Wanderson) Olivera of Forteleza, Brazil; Adam of La Crosse, Hunter, Lauren and Chase of DeSoto. They were privileged to have join their family on September 1, 2007 step grandsons Mike (Beth), Bob, Bill (Shannon), Jim (Amy) Goodenough; step great grandchildren Caleb, Alissa, Austin, Logan, Rease and Bentley Goodenough; one brother Eldon (Velda) of Florida; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Jim (Joyce) Nuss, Eugene (Jane) Nuss, Betty Koenig and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Jane's parents and a sister-in-law JoAnn Rudong.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday March 23, 2012 at the Bad Axe Lutheran Church at Purdy, rural Viroqua. Rev. Don Greven will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Family and friends are invited for a visitation from 9 to 11 a.m. on Friday at the church. The Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Gideons, Vernon Memorial Hospice, Pacific Garden Mission or the charity of donor's choice. Blessed be his memory.
