Sylvia E. Larson

Sylvia E. Larson, 89, of rural Coon Valley died Friday May 13, 2011 at Norseland Nursing Home in Westby. She was born July 4, 1921 to John and Mathilda (Gunderson) Torgerson in the town of Washington, La Crosse County. She was baptized at the Coon Valley Lutheran Church and confirmed at the Skogdalen Lutheran Church. Sylvia married Leif Larson on July 8, 1939 in Waukon, Iowa. Together the couple farmed the Larson home farm at rural Coon Valley. Sylvia enjoyed quilting, embroidering, baking cookies and having coffee with friends. She was a member of Vang Lutheran Church and WELCA.

Survivors include a daughter Judy (A. Richard) Brose and a son Dennis (Judy) Larson both of Coon Valley; 7 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; 2 sisters-in-law Harriet Torgerson of Westby and Alverda (Marvin) Lien of Washington and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Leif on January 30, 2001; a daughter Sharon Williams on January 1, 1992; 5 sisters Alice, Marie, Oletta, Josie and Gladys; 3 brothers Morris and Hjalmer and Julius in infancy.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday May 16, 2011 at the Vang Lutheran Church, rural Westby. Rev. Julie Wollman will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley and at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until service time. In lieu of individual thank you's the family will be making a donation to the Bethel Butikk.
