Listen to Obituary

Scott W. Strangstalien, 69 of La Crosse, passed away at home Sunday, April 12, 2026.

Scott was born March 18, 1957 in Viroqua to Arnold and Mary (Wemette) Strangstalien. He was a 1975 graduate of Westby High School and Western Tech in 1977.

He married Karla Berg in 1979. They made their home in Coon Valley until 2004 before moving to La Crosse.

Scott started working as a diesel mechanic at Gateway Foods in La Crosse but soon after obtained his Class A CDL and started driving semi for Gateway/Fleming. He continued driving semi for Earl Bonsack before retiring in 2020. He enjoyed his career as a truck driver and said he couldn’t imagine doing anything else.

His family was important to him and loved spending time with them, especially his grandkids. He also loved fishing. He taught and enjoyed taking many family, friends and children fishing. He truly thought it was the best hobby anyone could have. He participated in many fishing tournaments over several years but was probably most proud of the years he and his good friend Steve Tauscher fished the Masters Walleye Circuit (MWC) where they won several awards and enjoyed a lot of great fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Karla of La Crosse, children Kristen (Jon) Rickert of Viroqua and Joel (Randi) Strangstalien of Westby. Grandchildren Nicholas Fellegy of La Crosse, Lyla and Arthur Strangstalien of Westby and Lilly Rickert of Viroqua. His brothers Brian (Susan) Strangstalien of Westby and Michael Strangstalien of Arizona and many other friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Doug and father-in-law Arthur Berg.

Private family services will be held at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley. Burial will be in the Old Pioneer Cemetery in Chaseburg. Condolences may be given at selandsfuneralhome.com.
