Samuel "Sam" A. McKay, 78, of Chaseburg, died Sunday January 24, 2010 at his home. He was born to Robert and Ruth (Eastman) McKay in Swampscott, Massachusetts and was raised there. Sam was a U.S. Army veteran and a graduate of the University of Wisconsin. You may remember Sam as the owner of the McKay Town Campus Bookstore that was located at the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse campus until he sold the business in 1977. He was a life member of the Mayflower Society, and a life member and past treasurer of the Chaseburg Rod & Gun Club. Sam enjoyed writing, hunting and had a passion for jazz as well as the company of his many dear friends. He was also an avid fan of Wisconsin Badger football and the Boston Red Sox.

He leaves behind his sister-in-law Christine Nowlin McKay of Hendersonville, NC, nephews Robert Nowlin McKay (wife Linda) of Richfield, Ohio, Scott Clayton McKay (wife Sue) of Columbia, MD, and niece Claudia Christine Jorgenson (husband Mike) of Gandeeville, WV, as well as five great nephews and one great niece; Brad and Ben McKay of Richfield, OH; Adam and Andy Jorgenson of Gandeeville, WV; and Heather and Connor McKay of Columbia, MD. He also leaves many wonderful and dear friends who enjoyed his wit and personality. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Robert Eastman McKay.

Please join us in celebrating the life of Sam McKay at his memorial service to be held at 1 p.m. Saturday January 30, 2010 at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley with Rev. Dan Wollman officiating. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time. Sam will be laid to rest in the Swampscott Cemetery beside his parents and brother.
