Ruth H. Schroeder

Ruth H. Schroeder, 92, of Chaseburg, died Sunday December 27, 2015 at the Bethel Home in Viroqua where she had been a resident the past 2 years. She was born August 28, 1923 at rural Westby to Herman and Olga (Skaug) Bergum. Ruth was baptized and confirmed in Bethel Lutheran Church in Esofea. She graduated from Westby High School and attended Vernon County Normal School. On June 20, 1946 she married Paul Schroeder at Vang Lutheran Church. The couple farmed at rural Chaseburg for many years. Paul died in 1985. Ruth moved to the village of Chaseburg in 1994. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Chaseburg where she was active in Ladies Aid and served on various committees. Ruth enjoyed dancing and listening to music.

Survivors include two sons, John of La Crosse and Joe (Rachel) of Chaseburg; a daughter Becky (Dan) Christianson of Coon Valley; 5 grandchildren Sara (Michael) Lieurance, Amy (Tim) Dale, Erin and Shawna Schroeder and James (Angie) Boisen; many great grandchildren; a sister Aldoris Everson; a sister-in-law Grace Bergum and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; two sons, Randy in 2000 and Larry James in infancy; a grandson Paul John Schroeder in 1984; a brother Layton Bergum and 4 nephews, Ron Schroeder, Carl Everson, Harley Schroeder and Drew Bergum.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday December 30, 2015 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chaseburg. Rev. Steven Oldre will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until service time.
