Roland O. Engh

Roland O. Engh, 84, of Chaseburg, died Wednesday December 8, 2010 at Bethany St. Joseph Care Center in La Crosse. He was born November 17, 1926 to Engman and Malla (Barstad) Engh in Jefferson Township, Vernon County. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church in Esofea by Rev. O.M. Kleven. Roland served in the U.S. Navy from September 1945 to September 1947. He was part of Operation Crossroads at the Bikini Atoll in 1946. He returned to the Engh home farm in 1947. Roland was an avid baseball fan and in his younger years loved to play baseball with the South Ridge Baseball team. On May 5, 1956 Roland married Irma Rude at the Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church by Rev. Aasen. The couple farmed until 1989 when they retired to Chaseburg. While farming, Roland served on numerous dairy and farm committees. He also held many offices on the church councils at Bethany, Westby Coon Prairie and then at Middle Coon Valley Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Middle Coon Valley Lutheran Church and the Coon Valley American Legion Post #116.

Survivors include his daughter Cindy (Dennis) Christianson of Chaseburg, his son Steve (Shelly) Engh of Coon Valley; grandchildren Nichole Mathison, Travis Engh, Brett Christianson, Andrew (Vicky) Hess, Chelsea Engh; step children Ben, Zachary and Jordan; great grandchildren Hunter, Molly, Brock and Colton; 3 sisters Dorothy (Clyde) Gray; Rachel (Ed) Wrobel and Esther (Sherman) Erlandson; one brother Frederick (Lou Ann) Engh; 2 sisters-in-law Myrna and Pauline Engh; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Irma on December 31, 2008, his parents, 3 sisters Eleanore Gilbertson, Carrol Berg and Margaret Brye; 2 brothers Duane and LaVerne Engh.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday December 11, 2010 at the Middle Coon Valley Lutheran Church. Pastor Dan Wollman will officiate. Private burial will take place in the church cemetery. Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley and at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until service time.
