Roger B. Peterson

Roger B. Peterson, 90, of Westby peacefully passed away January 6, 2016 at Norseland Nursing Home in Westby. He was born June 30, 1925 in Grandview Hospital in La Crosse to Carl M. and Lydia (Hagen) Peterson. Roger attended Westby Schools. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II prior to his high school graduation, leaving his mother to accept his diploma. While in the Navy, he operated early IBM equipment and was a member of the Navy Blue Jackets Choir which broadcasted weekly over WGN. Roger married Grace Buros June 23, 1957 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Westby. Roger worked at the Westby-Coon Valley State Bank in Westby for 31 years. After retiring, he worked for several more years at the Ferryville and Stoddard Banks. He was a 1971 graduate of the University of Wisconsin Graduate School of Banking.

Roger chose to be obedient to Christ in his decision to be baptized as an adult in 1998 at the Viroqua Church of Christ. He was faithful in daily reading of the scriptures and praying. In addition to his commitment to Christ, Roger enjoyed being outdoors. He was an avid walker, spending many hours on the Spring Coulee Hill, and he enjoyed many days golfing. Roger appreciated his time drinking coffee and joshing with Dick and Larry. Late in his life, he had the opportunity to go to Washington D.C. on the Freedom Honor Flight with Carl.

He is survived by his wife Grace, son and daughter-in-law Carl and MaryPat Peterson and their children Leah Grace and Eric John Peterson; 3 sisters-in-law, Kay Peterson, Edith Buros and Katherine Buros; a niece, Dorothy Stoffregen and a nephew, William Buros. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, brother Reidar, sister Kathryn, niece Karla Peterson and nephew Paul Peterson.

The family would like to thank all the girls who cared for Roger at Norseland Nursing Home. Your compassion and love was extraordinary.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday January 9, 2016 at the Viroqua Church of Christ. Pastor Jeff Coon will officiate with burial in the Middle Coon Valley Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until service time. The Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley is assisting the family.
