Peter J. Brose

Peter John Brose, 82, of La Crosse, peacefully died at home on Monday, May 14, 2024.

He was born December 23, 1941 to Arthur and Selma (Morkri) Brose. Peter graduated from Westby High School in 1960 and joined the Army Reserves. During the following years, he found work at Burlington Railroad and American Motors in Kenosha, WI.

Peter married Pamela V. Smith on July 29, 1967.

While he attended Rock Valley Community College, he worked for Chrysler in Rockford, IL. However, he always dreamed of owning a farm. In 1974, he began a 25-year career as a hard-working dairy farmer. After selling the farm, he embraced his second career and lifelong passion of trading commodities.

Peter enjoyed the simple things in life, including large get-togethers with his extended family, playing cards with the guys, telling a good joke, conversation around a bonfire, drives to check on the crops and a perfectly buttered bowl of popcorn.

He is survived by his wife, Pam (Smith); son Shawn (Sally) of Westby; daughter Robyn (Ira) Johnson of Conifer, Colorado; four granddaughters Kerbie and Emilie Brose, Finley and Lola Johnson; one brother Alton (Gloria) Brose; two sisters Dorothy (Donald) Kjelland and Donna Johnson; a sister-in-law, Judy Brose; two brothers-in-law Rod M. (Diane) Smith and Robert (Jamie) Sueker as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws George and Vanetia Smith; brother, Arthur Richard Brose; a sister, Arlene Sueker and a brother-in-law Michael Johnson.

A visitation will be held on May 30, 2024 from 4-6pm at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley followed by a prayer service at 6pm. Condolences may be given at selandsfuneralhome.com. Memorials may be given to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Westby.
