Neil O. Martine

Neil O. Martine, 67, of Chaseburg, died Sunday June 26, 2011 at his home. He was born April 21, 1944 in La Crosse to Otto and Gertrude (Loeffler) Martine. Neil served in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1965, spending most of his time in Europe. On February 25, 1967 he married Diane Smith at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chaseburg. Neil worked initially at the Chaseburg Creamery and then for the last 45 years at the Chaseburg Farmer's Union Co-op until January when his health prevented him from working. He was a member of St. Peter's Church and the Chaseburg American Legion Post #202. Neil loved the people and community of Chaseburg and lived there his entire life. He enjoyed gardening, working in his yard, watching auto races, playing cards and visiting with friends.

Survivors include his wife Diane; a daughter Audra Martine of La Crosse; a son Derek Martine and granddaughter Sophia both of Chaseburg and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers Donald and Clair "Mick" Galstad and 2 sisters Faye Morrison and Betty Kuester.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday June 30, 2011 at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chaseburg with Rev. Steven Oldre officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Chaseburg American Legion Post #202. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley and at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until service time.
