Nancy L. Nagy

January 30, 1942 — October 15, 2023

Nancy Lou Wilson, age 81, went home to be with her Lord and Savior in the early morning hours of Sunday, October 15, 2023, from complications due to Alzheimer’s. She was born on January 30, 1942, in Bucyrus, Ohio to Glenn B and Marjorie Esther (Wilhelm) Wilson. Nancy was the oldest of seven siblings: Patricia Kay (Robert) Korbeck, Michael (Ruth Ann) Wilson, Paul (Judy) Wilson, Jayne (Steve) Buckman, Wendy (Luis) Davila and Glenn “Brooks” (Judy) Wilson.

Nancy would often tell the story of when she clerked at Heckerts, the local grocery store in Bucyrus, when a “nice man” went through her checkout lane. They struck up a conversation and the rest, as they say, was history. Nancy married the love of her life, Laurence “Larry” David Nagy on June 7, 1964. They spent the first years of marriage making a home in Bucyrus and where they welcomed a son, Wayne.

Nancy and Larry moved to LaCrosse, Wisconsin in 1968 for Larry to pursue a career in engineering at WKBT – TV. Their second son Michael “Mike” was born shortly after they settled into their new home.

After Michael was in school, Nancy took a position as a regular education teacher assistant at Summit Elementary on French Island. She retired from the School District of LaCrosse on May 11, 2004, after 30 years of service. Retirement allowed Nancy to take on her most precious position ever: full-time babysitter for her grandchildren. Nancy played an immense role in teaching them about life and love.

In truth, Nancy’s life can be summed up with that one word. LOVE.

Nancy loved her flowers, and her home was surrounded by large annual and perennial flower beds that bloomed from spring to fall. She also had a passion for gardening with her vegetable garden growing larger each year. Nancy and Larry poured over the seed catalogs throughout every winter before placing an order. The basement held a large array of tables with grow lights as they started all their flowers and vegetables from seed. Nancy and Larry canned extensively, and she was an exceptional cook and baker … often referencing her mother’s cookbooks but mainly throwing in a “pinch of this or a pinch of that”.  She served her family through her food, and she generously shared her recipes with her daughters-in-law, friends and neighbors. But, most of all, Nancy loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. She went to the ends of the earth to ensure her family came first, and her love was unparalleled. Nancy was a true blessing with her infectious smile and laughter that was known to all that knew her.

Survivors include her husband, Laurence; children, Wayne (Alicia) Nagy of Onalaska, Wisconsin and Michael (Jennifer) Nagy of LaCrosse, Wisconsin; 3 grandchildren Cody Nagy of Holmen, Wisconsin; Connor Nagy of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Carson Nagy of LaCrosse, Wisconsin.

She was preceded in death by her father Glenn B Wilson, her mother Marjorie Wilhelm, siblings Patricia Kay Korbeck, Jayne Buckman and Michael Wilson, and brother-in-law Robert Korbeck.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Bluffview Memory Care in Holmen, Wisconsin and St. Croix Hospice for their compassionate care of Nancy. In her final months of life with Alzheimer's, we noticed again her infectious laugh, a joy for life and a smile that took over her entire being.
