Maynard G. Dunnum

Maynard G. Dunnum, 88 of La Crosse died Wednesday November 4, 2026. He was born January 6, 1938 to Kenneth and Laura (Kirkeeng) Dunnum. He was baptized February 20, 1938 at Portland Lutheran Church, where he was also confirmed.

On August 23, 1961, Maynard married Virginia Stakston at Our’s Savior’s Lutheran Church, Westby, WI. This union was blessed with two sons, John and Brad.

Upon the death of his father in 1956, Maynard began farming the home farm and farmed for 38 years. In 1994, he and Virginia moved off the farm to Onalaska where he worked for Gundersen Clinic and also as a bus driver for the La Crosse School District.

He is survived by his sons, John (Kate) of La Crescent, MN, and Brad (Amy) of Rockford, MI; five grandchildren, Kristine (Drew), Ethan (Kennedy), Jenna, Zoe, and Leah; two great granddaughters, Sadie and Blair; three siblings, Carol Hehn, Florence Overgard and Howard Dunnum, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Maynard was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Virginia, his parents, daughter-in-law, Deanne Dunnum, brothers-in-law, Carl Hehn, Philip Overgard and Ardell Olson, and sister-in-law, Elaine Olson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday November 12, 2026 at First Lutheran Church, 410 Main Street in Onalaska. Rev. Jason Stanton will officiate with burial in the Skogdalen Lutheran Cemetery, rural Westby. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until service time at the church.
