LaVonne C. Engh

LaVonne C. Engh, 84, of Coon Valley passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Wednesday May 15, 2013 at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse. She was born July 19, 1928 in La Crosse to Palmer and Ragna (Olson) Olson. She was baptized and confirmed at the Coon Valley Lutheran Church. LaVonne graduated from Westby High School in 1946 and obtained an accounting degree from Western Technical College in 1947. She married Verdell Engh on July 17, 1947 at the Coon Valley Lutheran Church. The couple farmed their married life in rural Chaseburg. Verdell died December 11, 1996 and LaVonne moved to Coon Valley in 1998. She was a bookkeeper at the Coon Valley Sales Barn for 46 years up until March of 2013. LaVonne was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Esofea and WELCA and was also a former Nerison 4-H project leader. She enjoyed auctions, music, playing cards, cooking and baking for family and friends and attending the many activities of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.


Survivors include 2 sons Alan (Shirley) of Chaseburg and Peter (Michele) of Westby; 3 daughters Dana Engh of La Crosse, Kristie (Gary) Roesler of West Salem and Elizabeth (Steve) Engh of Mayville; 12 grandchildren Craig, Darren (Lisa), Jennifer (Chad), Bob (Heidi), Kala (Duane), Jared, Gabrielle, Ashley, David, Kyrsten (Makenzie), Clayton and Nick; 11 great grandchildren Zachery, Jacob, Max, Emily, Nick, Melody, Madeline, Reagan, Signe, Alysa and Mason; in-laws Karen (Sonny) Zielke of La Crosse, Richard (Audrey) Engh of Gold Beach, Oregon, James (Evangeline) Richardson of San Diego, Calif., and Jo Engh of Florida.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; brothers Raymond and Lawrence and a sister Evangeline Richardson.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday May 20, 2013 at the Coon Valley Lutheran Church. Rev. Pete Beckstrand will officiate with burial in the Bethany Lutheran Cemetery in Esofea. Friends may call on Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley and at the church on Monday from 12:30 until service time. Online condolences may be offered at selandsfuneralhome.com. Memorials are preferred to the family to establish a Norse Fund scholarship in her name or the Bethany Lutheran Church.
