John Eumurian

January 14, 1925 — October 6, 2017

John Eumurian, 92, of Viroqua, Wisconsin, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 6, 2017 at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Steve Pace, in Sycamore, Illinois. John was born on January 14, 1925 in St. Paul, Minnesota, to Daniel & Aris (Balian) Eumurian. He was born again at the age of 13 when he recognized himself as a sinner and trusted in the blood of Jesus Christ for salvation. After graduation from high school in St. Paul, he served in the United States Army during World War II. He served in combat for more than three months and was wounded during the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium in December 1944.

After his return home in 1946, he attended the University of Minnesota and St. Paul Bible College, graduating from the Bible College in 1950. He married Adeline Sivertson on May 31, 1948. They began pastoral work in Sparta, Wisconsin in June of 1950, and served there for 21 years. Adeline returned to teaching in the public schools during this time.

For five years, John and Adeline served as teachers/administrators at Lake Center Christian School in Hartville, Ohio. They returned to Wisconsin to pastor the Springville Christian Fellowship in rural Viroqua until John's retirement in 1990. They continued their pastoral ministry with home Bible studies, counseling, mentoring, and prayer from their home in Springville. As they were preparing to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, Adeline was called home to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 30, 1998. Using his gifts as pastor and teacher, John continued to lead Bible studies for many years. He valued the opportunities to share God's Word and to pray with and for many people. This was part of the joy and spark of his life.

Survivors include his daughter, Jane (Steven) Pace of Illinois, son Daniel (Elizabeth) Eumurian of La Crosse, grandson Nathan (Sara) Pace, granddaughter Jessica (Tigabu) Kassa and great-grandchildren Rebecca and Zackary Pace, and Elias, Rahel, Natania, and Ezekiel Kassa; his brother, Woodrow (Elizabeth) Eumurian and sisters Eva Masin and Jean (Dick) Buzzard and many friends. John was predeceased by his wife, Adeline in 1998 and his brother Charles Eumurian in 2016.

John's major occupation and delight was to share Scripture, devotional reading, and prayer with Adeline and other family members and friends. His desire was that everyone know Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, and that they would serve Him wholeheartedly. One of his many favorite songs was "O Worship the King." Among his many favorite Scriptures was Psalm 86:11, "Teach me your way, O Lord, and I will walk in your truth, give me an undivided heart that I may fear your name."

Services will be held at the United Methodist Church in Viroqua at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 5, 2017, with a lunch following the service. Burial took place in Springville Cemetery. The Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley is assisting the family. Online condolences may be offered at selandsfuneralhome.com.

Memorial gifts may be directed to the Viroqua United Methodist Church or to CAMA Services, a Christian relief organization.

Let memories be centered on John's Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, whom he gladly served and by whom he was received.
