Jerrold V. Nestingen

Jerrold Vernon Nestingen, age 80, of rural Westby passed away on September 9, 2011 at Norseland Nursing Home where he was undergoing rehab after a brief hospital stay. Jerrold was born on February 2, 1931 in the Town of Coon to Julian and Gina (Gronvold) Nestingen and was raised on a Spring Coulee farm with his three sisters and brother. Jerry was baptized and confirmed at Coon Valley Lutheran Church, where he was a lifelong member. Jerry attended Coon Valley Elementary School and graduated from Westby High School in 1948. He attended Farm Short Course in Madison as well as classes at WWTC before serving in the United States Navy for four years. During his service in the Navy, Jerry was stationed at Naval Bases in Great Lakes, Illinois; Jacksonville, FL; Memphis, TN; and Coronado, CA.

On August 2, 1952, Jerrold married Irene Nesset at Coon Valley Lutheran Church, and after Jerry's discharge from the Navy, he and Irene farmed in the Town of Coon milking registered Guernsey cattle. Jerry and Irene were blessed with two children: James Kent, born in 1953, and Janice Irene, born in 1958. Four grandchildren added much joy to the family: Hans Jurgen Nestingen (b. 1984), Arne Thomas Parrott (b. 1988), Per Kristian Nestingen (b. 1988), Claire Rosine Parrott (b. 1992).

Jerry served as Treasurer of Coon Valley Lutheran for several years as well as Treasurer for the Town of Coon. He and Irene were members of the American Guernsey Association and the Wisconsin Guernsey Association. Jerrold was proud to be a 50-year+ member of the Coon Valley American Legion Post #116. He also served on various other church and community boards.

Jerrold is survived by his wife of 59 years, Irene; daughter Jan Parrott and husband John Parrott of Dousman, WI; grandchildren Hans and Per Nestingen of Minneapolis, MN; Arne Parrott of Chicago, IL; Claire Parrott of Madison, WI; daughter-in-law Leslee Nestingen of Minneapolis; sisters June Weller of San Diego, CA; Lorraine (Merlin) Rudie of Westby; Evonell Frydenlund of Oak Creek, WI; brother Richard (Geraldine) Nestingen of Coon Valley, and many nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son James, his infant brother Virgil, his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Elaine and Dean Amundson, his brother-in-law Marvin Frydenlund, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Edwin and Rosie Nesset. Blessed be his memory.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday September 13, 2011 at the Coon Valley Lutheran Church. Rev. Mitzi Miyamoto will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the Coon Valley American Legion Post #116. Friends may call on Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley and at the church Tuesday from 10 a.m. until service time.

Memorials are preferred to Coon Valley Lutheran Church.
