Janice L. Kapanke

Janice Lorine Kapanke, 76, of rural Coon Valley, died Monday January 11, 2016 at her home. She was born May 4, 1939 to Harry and Helen (Gilbertson) Beitlich at rural Stoddard. Janice was baptized and confirmed at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Stoddard. She graduated from Central High School in 1957. On July 30, 1960, she married David Kapanke at St. Matthew's. The couple farmed in South Dakota until 1986 when they moved to La Crosse. Janice worked for Blue Cross for a short time before being employed by Bosshard Parke in La Crosse for over 20 years. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in La Crosse. Janice enjoyed gardening, working outside on the lawn, cooking, playing cards and most importantly spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband, David; 2 sons, Jason (Lorna) of West St. Paul, Minn. and Steven (Leah) of Chicago; 4 grandchildren, Garrett, Jack, William and Laina; 2 sisters, Dee (John) Roberts of La Crosse and Donna (Ted Sommerfeld) Beitlich of Stoddard; a brother, Dennis (Jeanne) Beitlich of Minnetonka, Minn.; David's family, Paul (Janice) Kapanke of Coon Valley, Mary (Paul) Benson of Stoddard, John (Sherry) Kapanke of Minneapolis, Dan (Ruth) Kapanke and Ruth (Robert) Lenser both of La Crosse; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother Duane Beitlich and a sister Marion Beitlich.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday January 15, 2016 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in La Crosse. Rev. Robert Wasserman and Rev. Oliver Lindholm will officiate with burial in Hamburg Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Chaseburg. A visitation will be held Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley and at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until service time. Memorials may be given to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church or Luther High School.
