Howard V. Moilien

Howard Vernon Moilien, 91, of Coon Valley passed away Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017 at home.Howard was born to Nordahl and Caroline (Gronvold) Moilien June 22, 1926 at home. He attended North Ridge School through eighth grade then began dairy farming with his father on North Ridge. He was drafted into the Army and served from January of 1952 until January of 1954 and was stationed in Korea. On July 20, 1963, he married Pauline Allness of Viroqua after which they lived on Howard's home farm until his death.

. He enjoyed farming and still helped out after his son Marc took over the farm in 1988. He was an active lifelong member of the Coon Valley Lutheran Church, former member of the Coon Valley Creamery Board and a 64 year member of the Coon Valley American Legion Post #116. He also volunteered at Norskedalen in the Skumsrud cabin where his grandmother was born.

Howard was known as the historian to his friends and family, for his excellent recollection of events and dates. He enjoyed visiting with family and friends and talking Norwegian.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline, son, Marc (Anna) Moilien, daughter, Kristy, brother-in-law, Archie Rundhaugen, sisters-in-law, Mary (Roger) Philipps, Mary Hudson, and other cousins, nieces and nephews. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Clarence (Jan) Moilien, sister, Carol Rundhaugen, brothers-in-laws, Fred Allness, and Mario Hudson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday October 25, 2017 at the Coon Valley Lutheran Church. Rev. Mitzi Miyamoto will officiate. Burial with military honors by the Coon Valley American Legion Post 116 will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley and at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until service time.
