Herbert W. Wehling

Herbert W. Wehling, 91, of rural Chaseburg, died Sunday March 13, 2016 at Benedictine Manor in La Crosse. He was born January 12, 1925 to S. William and Helen (Schlicht) Wehling at rural Stoddard. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter's Ev. Lutheran Church in Chaseburg. Herb married Arlene Manske on July 2, 1949 in Chaseburg. He farmed until 1965 and then was employed at Trane Co. in La Crosse for 22 years. His retirement job was G & G (Grunt & Groan) Construction - doing handyman work in the area. Herb was a lifetime member of Hamburg Evangelical Lutheran Church, serving as cemetery board treasurer for 25 years and custodian for 20 years. He also did volunteer work with the Builders for Christ Mission. He enjoyed woodworking in his spare time.

Survivors include his wife, Arlene; 3 children, Lee Osley (Peder Schoenfeld) of Chaseburg, Jon (Brenda) Wehling of Wendell, NC and Sue Thorson of La Crosse; 6 grandchildren, Amy Iverson, Tom Osley, Trisha (Stewart) Schultz, Mark Thorson (Jenny Haugh), Peter Revels and Stefanie (Alex) Mills; 13 great grandchildren, 4 step great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and one step great great grandchild; a sister Dorothy (John) Ofstedahl of Holmen and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hamburg Evangelical Lutheran Church, rural Chaseburg. Rev. Steven Oldre will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley and at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until service time.
