Harley E. Stendahl, 88, of rural Chaseburg, passed away Thursday October 27, 2011 at Norseland Nursing Home in Westby where he had been a resident the past 3 weeks. He was born July 20, 1923 to Hilmer and Elise (Role) Stendahl in the Town of Coon, Vernon County. He was baptized and confirmed at the Coon Valley Lutheran Church and attended Nerison School. Harley married LaVonne Simonson on April 18, 1970 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Viroqua. The couple farmed their married life on the Stendahl home farm at rural Chaseburg.
Harley enjoyed time with family and his granddaughter Anna. He also enjoyed the outdoors and being on the farm. Harley had a natural "green thumb" and was an avid gardener of vegetables and flowers. Harley loved to play croquet, bowl, play horseshoes and watch baseball and football. He was a former member of the South Ridge baseball team and a life long member of the Coon Valley Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, LaVonne; his daughter Angela (Brock) Marx of Westby; his sister Margaret (Selmer) Lindahl of Stoddard and several nieces, nephews and cousins and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters Agnes (Delbert) Christianson and Alverda Stendahl.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday November 1, 2011 at the Coon Valley Lutheran Church. Rev. Mitzi Miyamoto will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until service time.
