Glenn E. Lorenz

Glenn E. Lorenz, 89 of Viroqua, died Tuesday June 11, 2024 at his home. He was born October 13, 1934 in La Crosse to Edward and Hilda (Meyer) Lorenz. He was baptized at Salzer Memorial and confirmed at St. John’s Evangelical and Reformed Church in La Crosse. He served in the US Navy as a pilot flying touch and goes, with T28’s, on aircraft carriers. After graduating from Central High School, in La Crosse, Glenn attended and graduated from UW-Madison with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. On November 9, 1963 he married Carol Haugen at Middle Coon Valley Lutheran Church.

Glenn worked for the Soil Conservation Service (USDA), as a Civil Engineer, helping farmers and focusing on flood prevention type dams for 30 years (retired since 1989) and operated the family beef farm outside of Viroqua where they lived (his 2nd love) for 58 years.

Glenn enjoyed flying, woodworking, hunting, land conservation and planting trees. He was awarded Tree Farmer of the year in 1982.

He is survived by his wife Carol of 60 years; sons Aaron (Shannon), Eric and daughter Sarah (Frank) Harless; grandchildren, Molly (Brett) Ward, Ryan, Connor, Anna, Jenna, Abby; great granddaughter, Laney Ward; his sister, Marilyn Michaels; brothers Gene (Judy) and Leslie (Becky) and Glenn’s close nieces, nephews and cousins.

Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Terry who was killed in Vietnam and his brother-in-law Henry Michaels.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday June 24, 2024 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Viroqua. A visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until service time. Lunch will follow in the church basement. The Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley is assisting the family. Condolences may be given at selandfuneralhome.com.
