Evelyn H. Spears

Evelyn H. Spears, 92, of Stoddard, died Thursday January 7, 2010 at her home. She was born in rural Chaseburg on September 11, 1917 the daughter of Adolph and Emma (Seidel) Lenser. Evelyn graduated from Central High School in 1935. She married Harold Stromstad and they farmed on Chaseburg ridge. They were later divorced and in 1948 she married Chester Spears. They spent most of their married lives gardening and truck farming on County Hwy. B in the town of Medary. Evelyn also worked at Culp's Restaurant in La Crosse for 16 years. Chester and Evelyn also raised Red Factor canaries for many years - often having over 300 canaries in their home. They retired to Stoddard in 1981 and enjoyed playing cards with friends. Chester died November 5, 1993. In later years Evelyn and Bonnie enjoyed many trips to the casinos and made many friends on the bus trips.

Survivors include her daughter Bonnie Spears of Stoddard; several cousins and special friends Elaine Wrobel and Doris Sorenson. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Chester and her daughter and son-in-law Emily and John Bruun.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday January 11, 2010 at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley. Rev. Dean Staffanson will officiate with burial in the Stoddard Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call at the Seland Funeral Home on Monday from noon until service time.
