Eleanor V. Bendel

Eleanor V. Bendel, age 102, of Chaseburg, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2025, at Bethel Oaks Memory Care in Viroqua, WI. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Eleanor was born on October 11, 1922, in Rawalls, Texas. 

She graduated from Central High School in 1940. Eleanor married Harvey Bendel at Salzer Methodist Church. Together they had one child, Gary Bendel. She dedicated her life to her family and community, always offering a warm smile and a helping hand. In Chaseburg, she worked for the Vernon County Aging Center as the mealsite manager for many years. Eleanor was known for making delicious handmade bread and coffee cakes, which were recipes passed down from her mother. Her kindness touched the lives of many, and her memory will be cherished by all who knew her. 

Survivors include her son, Gary; 2 grandchildren Josh (Brenda), Jordan (Jody); 9 great-grandchildren, Grace, Lucas, Chase, Cullen, Ava, Lilah, Judah, Lucy, Hiram. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Bendel, and daughter-in-law, Jackie Bendel. 

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday May 28, 2025, at Bethesda Lutheran Brethren Church in Westby. Rev. Paul Tjelta will officiate with burial in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park. A visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until service time. The Seland Funeral Home is assisting the family. Condolences may be given at selandsfuneralhome.com.
