Douglas A. Sveum

Douglas A. Sveum, 76, of rural Coon Valley, died Thursday July 12, 2018 at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse.  He was born September 13, 1941 in La Crosse to Alton and Evelyn (Peterson) Sveum.  Doug was baptized and confirmed at the Coon Valley Lutheran Church.  He graduated from Westby High School in 1959.  Doug worked at American Motors in Kenosha until 1963 when he was drafted into the U.S. Army.  He served from January 1964 to January 1966.  Doug married Martha Saunders in 1966 and they were later divorced. He then married Deb Leverton and they also later divorced.  Doug drove truck for several companies over the years including Erickson Transport in Coon Valley.  He was a member of the Coon Valley Conservation Club and the Coon Valley American Legion Post #116.  Doug loved hunting and riding his Harley.

Survivors include his 2 sons, Richard Sveum of Monroe, Iowa and Robert (Teresa) Sveum of Broadhead; a stepson, Bud (Sacha) Powell of Ferryville; 6 grandchildren, Jennifer, Ray, Andrew, Cory, Elizabeth and Taylor; 1 great grandchild, Alton Robert Sveum; 1 brother, Charles “Chuck” (Robin) Sveum; 2 sisters, Karen (Charlie) Gates and Lynn (Cary) Joholski; special friend, Dorothy LaDue and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial visitation will be held Friday July 20, 2018 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley with a  prayer service at 6 p.m. officiated by Rev. Ted Dewald.  Burial with military honors will be in the Coon Valley Lutheran Cemetery.
