Donald H. "Stub" Denison

Donald H. "Stub" Denison, 77, of Coon Valley, passed away Friday November 7, 2014 surrounded by his family. He was born May 12, 1937 in Soldiers Grove to Donald A. and Alda (Helgerson) Denison. He graduated from Soldiers Grove High School in 1955. He played on the school basketball team and in his senior year was voted "Athlete of the Year". On January 16, 1954, he married Judy Roellig. Don owned "Stub's 76" full service station in Janesville. He also worked at General Motors in Janesville in the body shop as a welder, retiring in March, 1993 after 35 years. He was a member of the GM Local 95 in Janesville. He then moved back to "God's Country" with his wife and resided in Coon Valley for the past 20 years. He became a member of the Coon Valley Lutheran Church. Don enjoyed countless hours of fishing throughout his lifetime on many bodies of water. The great Mississippi River was his favorite. He taught his fishing passion to his sons and grandchildren. He also enjoyed woodcrafting and playing Bunco.

Don is survived by his wife of 60 years, Judy; two sons Rick (Barb) Denison of Fort Wayne, Indiana and Donald Jay (Laurie) Denison of Viroqua, six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren; one sister Peggy Ferrel of Monroe and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, one sister Julienne Kennedy, his mother and father-in-law Grace and George "Jay" Roellig, and two brothers-in-law Don Kennedy and Steve Ferrel.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday November 14, 2014 at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley. Rev. Mitzi Miyamoto will officiate. Burial will be in Soldiers Grove at a later date. Friends may call from noon until service time at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Coon Valley Lutheran Church or the Bland Bekkedal Hospice Center in Viroqua. We love you and miss you dearly. You were a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend. You were always willing to help those in need with anything.
