Dennis “Denny” William Peterson, 85 of Chaseburg, passed away on May 18, 2026, at Emplify Health System in La Crosse. Born on February 16, 1941, in Black River Falls, Dennis was the son of Gaylord and Donna (Burge) Peterson.

Dennis spent his early years in Onalaska, before moving with his family to rural Ettrick in the seventh grade. It was there, at Gale‑Ettrick High School, that he met his high school sweetheart and future wife, Connie Johnson. The two were united in marriage on March 5, 1960, at Hardies Creek Lutheran Church, beginning a lifelong partnership rooted in love, faith, and devotion.

After graduating from Gale‑Ettrick High School, Dennis enlisted in the United States Air Force in September 1959. He proudly served four years of active duty before returning home to Wisconsin to begin building a life with Connie.

Together, they welcomed three children before moving to Chaseburg, where Dennis built their forever home. They finished the interior themselves, all while Connie was pregnant with their fourth child — a testament to their teamwork, determination, and shared vision for the family they were raising. There, they added two more children, creating a warm and lively household that remained the center of Dennis’s world.

Dennis worked for over 30 years as a machinist at Trane Company, where he was known for his skill, reliability, and strong work ethic. He was a proud and dedicated member of IAM Local 22, valuing the camaraderie and solidarity of his union brothers and sisters. He was also a member of American Legion Post 202 in Chaseburg, honoring his military service throughout his life.

Outside of work, Dennis found joy in the simple, steady pleasures of life. He loved fishing from his boat, camping with family at Goose Island, bowling, playing cards, and spending time outdoors. Woodworking, a craft he learned from his father and grandfather, was a lifelong passion. He especially enjoyed picture framing and took great pride in making a handcrafted toy box for each of his grandchildren — gifts that will be treasured for generations.

Dennis is survived by his children: James (Maria) of Green Bay; John of La Crosse; Jeffrey (Lisa) of Coon Valley; and Joey (Beth) of Platteville. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 19 great‑grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense pride and joy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gaylord and Donna; his loving wife, Connie; a daughter, Jayne (Peterson) Frydenlund; and two brothers, David and Michael.

Dennis passed away from complications of esophageal cancer, which he had been diagnosed with six months earlier. His strength during this time was a testament to the resilience with which he lived his life.

His memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.

Private services will be held. Burial will be in the Hardies Creek Lutheran Cemetery, rural Ettrick. The Seland Funeral Home is assisting the family. Condolences may be given at selandsfuneralhome.com.
