Dan "Abe" A. Tiedeman

Dan "Abe" A. Tiedeman, 78, of Coon Valley died Wednesday March 16, 2011 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse. He was born September 10, 1932 in Dubuque, Iowa. On December 31, 1932 Abe was adopted by Ira and Lois (Oliver) Tiedeman. He attended school in Coon Valley and graduated from Westby High School in 1950. In 1951 he graduated from La Crosse Vocational School (WWTC) with a degree in mechanics. Abe was in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955 serving in Korea as a member of the Signal Corps. On February 23, 1963 he married Caroline Hemmersbach at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Coon Valley. Abe worked at Trane Co. in La Crosse from 1955 to 1995 most of the time as a welder. He was former member of the Coon Valley Conservation Club and a lifetime member of the Viroqua VFW. He enjoyed spending time with his family and their many activities.

Survivors include his wife Caroline; 3 sons Karl (Kathy) of Chaseburg, Steve of Coon Valley and Scott (Jennifer) of La Crosse; 2 grandchildren Jessica and Seth; 5 half-sisters Nancy Lane of Fairbanks, Alaska, Carol One Year of Boynton Beach, Florida, Janet (Laurence) Winner of Boise, Idaho, Pat (Richard) Feipel and Sandy (Les) Sarazin both of Dubuque, Iowa; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Rose Clark, Beverly Kotthaus, Jan Von Ruden, Linda Leis, Ron and Ardith Hemmersbach, Jake Hemmersbach, Beth and Gerry Hemmersbach and Diane and John Kast.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his parents, his half-brother Herbert Bates and brothers-in-law Don Von Ruden, Philip Clark, Mark Leis and Wilfred Kotthaus.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday March 21, 2011 at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley. Rev. Richard Dickman will officiate with burial in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park. Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. and on Monday from 10 a.m. until service time both at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Coon Valley Fire Department or the Freedom Honor Flight Program.
