Claurice "Stub" W. Johnson

Claurice “Stub” Johnson, 91 of La Crosse, passed away at Eagle Crest South Memory Care on Friday, July 17, 2026. He was born to Harry and Collie (DeWitt) Johnson on April 11, 1935. He graduated from Viroqua High School in 1953. On December 29, 1956, he married A. Diane Dummer.

They had three children, Kala (Jim) Justin, Scott and Lisa (Schroeder) Johnson and Sara (Paul) Jelen and one sister, Janus Nundahl. Stub’s grandkids include Jessica, Anna, Kristina, Emily, Mina, Charlie, Sam and 18 great grandkids and 3 great-great grandkids.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Diane Johnson, his son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Lisa Johnson, his brother, Harland “Hod” Johnson and his brother-in-law, Donnie Nundahl.

Stub worked at a variety of jobs over the years – the Cooler Company, Trane Company, Delta Motors and La Crosse Realty. However, his main job was being a realtor and started a real estate company called Recommended Realty with his good friend Jimmy Shay. Along the way, Stub made some very dear friends. He was a friendly, easy-going person who loved pop-ins and was always ready for a cocktail!

Stub enjoyed hunting with ‘the guys’, fishing, golfing and he loved playing Euchre. He knew what was in your hand before you played it! He is best known by his family for his famous Easter Egg Hunt – where he hid them so good that sometimes even he couldn’t find them.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday July 25, 2026 at the Chaseburg American Legion. As Stub would say, “Thanks for coming!”
