Carol Jean E. Kammel

November 2, 1935 — January 20, 2014

Carol Jean Kammel, 78, of rural Coon Valley was called to her heavenly home Monday, January 20, 2014, at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse. She was born November 2, 1935, in the township of Jefferson, Monroe Co., Wisconsin, to Alfonse and Marie (Fredrick) Flock. After graduation she worked for Moen Photo Service in La Crosse and then the Sidney Motel in Sparta for 2 years. She later worked for Leuther Laboratories. She married Kenneth Kammel on July 31, 1956, at St. Mary's Ridge Catholic Church. They purchased a farm near Coon Valley and Carol took a stand in life by becoming a farmer's wife. Carol was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, sister, friend and neighbor. She was gracious to all visitors and made sure they never went away hungry. Carol was a member of the Coon Valley American Legion Auxiliary for 35 years and was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and choir.

Survivors include her husband Kenneth of 57 years; 8 children Daniel (Kathryn) of Onalaska; Debra (Donald) Bahr of LaCrosse; Dennis of Coon Valley; James (Regina Laugalis) of Coon Valley; John (Lorie) of Coon Valley; Pat (Bonnie Bloomfield) of Coon Valley; Carl (Lisa) of La Crosse; Monica (Frank) Koltermann of Barre Mills; 17 grandchildren: Tara Kammel, Krista (Ryan) Schlicht, Christopher Bahr, Scott (Stefanie) Bahr, Tammy (Dan) Pertile, Kyle Kammel, Max (Julia) Kammel, Dallas Kammel, Alexander, Victoria and Gloria Laugalis, Benjamin (Brianna) Kammel, Zachary Kammel, Kendon Kammel, Alton Kammel, Heleyna Kammel and Tanner Koltermann ; 9 great grandchildren Keira and Lincoln Schlicht, Kayla and Ariana Bahr, Taylor, Jordan and Cameron Pertile, Everett Kammel, Kayleigh Kammel; a host son from Germany, Harold Schlinder; 3 brothers: Donald Flock of Sparta, LaMont "Butch" (Jane) Flock of Cashton, Jim (Jean) Flock of Milton; 2 sisters: Rose Ann (Eugene) Hurtz of Middle Ridge and Ethel (Ron) Becker of Cashton; brother-in-law Jerome Schreier of Cashton; sister-in-law LaVina Flock of Cashton; many other relatives and friends and Max her loving canine companion.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother Eugene Flock and a sister Sally Schreier.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, January 25, 2014< at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in St. Joseph's Ridge. Monsignor Michael Gorman and Monsignor Robert Hundt will concelebrate with burial in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held Friday at the church from 4 to 8 p.m. with a Rosary service at 7:30 P.M. and also at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass.
