Betty L. Nelson

Betty L. Nelson, 97 of Coon Valley, died Friday June 13, 2025 at Hillview Health Care Center in La Crosse. She was born April 21, 1928 to Lloyd and Olga (Lindevig) Johnson. She married Layton Nelson on June 1, 1948 at the Coon Valley Lutheran Church. Betty was a baptized, confirmed, married and a lifelong member of the Coon Valley Lutheran Church. She was active in WELCA, quilting, knitting prayer shawls and baptismal blankets. Betty was well known for her donuts and baked goodies. She did sewing for people in the community and enjoyed volunteering for many years at Norskedalen.

Survivors include her daughter, Sue (Dennis) Dewsnap of DePere; 4 grandchildren Tracy (Matt) Stellner and Troy (Lindsay) Nelson of Coon Valley; Chris (Robbi) Dewsnap of DePere and Nick (Erin Boneck) Dewsnap of Waukesha; 9 great grandchildren Macy and Mackenzie Stellner, Livvy, Griffin and Jaxson Nelson, Logan and Nathan Dewsnap and Ava and Layton Dewsnap; daughter-in-law, Marcy Nelson; brother-in-law, Michael Nelson and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Layton and son, Terry.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday June 19, 2025 at the Coon Valley Lutheran Church. Rev. Ben Morris will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley and at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until service time.
