Arnold H. Schlicht

Arnold H. Schlicht, 97, of La Crosse and formerly of Chaseburg died Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at Benedictine Manor in La Crosse.

Arnold was born August 26, 1915 in the village of Chaseburg, Town of Hamburg, to Rudolph and Matilda (Dummer) Schlicht. He spent most of his early years on a farm in rural Chaseburg. He graduated from La Crosse Central High School in 1934 and continued working on the family farm. He married Alida Hovde on October 28, 1944 in Westby Coon Prairie Church. They farmed in the Chaseburg area until 1965 when he became District Representative for Aid Association for Lutherans Insurance. He retired in 1978 and after several years they moved to the La Crosse area.

During his lifetime Arnold served as Town of Hamburg Town Clerk for 16 years, Treasurer of his local school for 11 years, a Lions Club member of both Coon Valley Lions and Mormon Coulee Lions for 40 years, serving one year as District Governor.

Arnold was a lifetime member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Chaseburg where he served in many offices. His life reflected his Christianity which included daily devotions and always helping others.

He is survived by his dear wife Alida of 68 years; daughter Laura (Roger) Barnes of La Crosse; granddaughters Carrie (Marc) Arrouet of Milwaukee and Christen Barnes of La Crosse; a dearly loved great-grandson Zachary Barnes of La Crosse; and many dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister and brother-in-law, Loretta and Conrad Fehrer; sisters and brothers-in-law Margaret and Lester Bjorge, Eleanor and Karl Peterson; and sister-in-law Evelyn Hovde.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Sunday July 7, 2013 at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chaseburg. Rev. Steven Oldre will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday from 3-5 pm at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley and at the church on Sunday from 1 pm until service time. Online condolences at selandsfuneralhome.com.
