Alice Jergena Schlicht

Alice Jergena Schlicht, 86 of rural Chaseburg died Thursday October 22, 2009 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born July 26, 1923 to John H. and Amanda (Gabrielson) Ostrem in Jefferson Township, Vernon County. She married Edmund Schlicht on September 28, 1946. The couple farmed their married life on the Schlicht home farm in Harmony Township. Besides farming she enjoyed gardening, especially her flower gardens. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Survivors include two sons Raymond (Ann) and Alvin (Sue) both of rural Chaseburg; 8 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 4 sisters Doris Sorenson of Coon Valley, Arlene Severson of Holmen, Francis (Eugene) Bekkedal of Viroqua and Rachel (Emil) Cornell of Barre Mills; 2 sisters-in-law Dorothy Ostrem of Viroqua and Myrna Ostrem of Chaseburg; an aunt Haldes in Norway and many other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Edmund on December 28, 2002; two brothers Herb and John O. Ostrem and two brothers-in-law Raymond Sorenson and Sylvan Severson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday October 26, 2009 at the Lower Coon Valley Lutheran Church. Rev. Donald Fox and Rev. Mitzi Miyamoto will officiate with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery in La Crosse. Friends may call on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley and at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until service time. Memorials may be given to Gundersen Lutheran Hospice.
