Alice M. Jorstad

Alice M. Jorstad, 84, of rural Chaseburg, died Thursday October 13, 2011 at Bethany St. Joseph Care Center in La Crosse. She was born June 26, 1927 to Herman and Alvina (Bray) Schlicht in the Town of Harmony, Vernon County. She attended Lepke School. Alice married Joe Berra Sr. and they were later divorced. On December 31, 1970, she married Bernie Jorstad in Waukon, Iowa. They enjoyed traveling and Wednesday night happy hour with friends and family. Alice loved gardening, crocheting and was an excellent cook. She was a long time member of Middle Coon Valley Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her children Herb (Lynn) Berra and Bob (Rachel) Berra of Chaseburg, Marilyn (Dick) Skrede of Stoddard and Joe (Ann) Berra Jr. of Chaseburg; 7 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; her stepchildren Terry (Joan) Jorstad of Chaseburg, Arlyn (Linda) Jorstad and Bonnie (Leon) Borck both of Coon Valley, Jerry (Peggy) Jorstad of Westby, Linda (Vic) Rufer of Janesville, Robert (Debbie) Jorstad of Chaseburg and James (Mary) Cade of Viroqua; 11 step grandchildren; 16 step great grandchildren; a sister Janice Phillips of Stoddard and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bernie on June 26, 2010; her parents; 2 brothers Sylvester and Edmund Schlicht and a sister Dorothy Helke.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday October 17, 2011 at the Middle Coon Valley Lutheran Church, rural Chaseburg. Rev. Dan Wollman will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley and at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until service time. Memorials are preferred to the Vernon Memorial Hospice House, Bethany St. Joseph Recreation Dept. or the Middle Coon Valley Lutheran Church. In lieu of sending individual thank yous, the family will be making a donation to the Friends of Chaseburg.
