Alden H. Olson

Alden H. Olson, 80, of rural Westby, died Saturday April 26, 2014 at Norseland Nursing Home in Westby surrounded by the love of his family following a brief illness. He was born December 22, 1933 in Portland Township, Monroe County to Olaf and Mabel (Peterson) Olson. He was baptized and confirmed at Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church. On June 30, 1956, Alden married Beatrice Stakston at the Coon Valley Lutheran Church. He was then drafted into the US Army, serving from September 1956 to September 1958 at Fort Ord, California. Alden was a lifelong farmer and also hauled milk for 19 years. He was a lifetime member of the Snowflake Ski Club and Norskedalen where he spent countless hours volunteering, a member of the Coon Valley Lutheran Church, and a former member of the Coon Valley Creamery Board. Alden loved his family and farm, and also enjoyed reading, hunting and fishing and going for Sunday drives.

Survivors include his wife, Beatrice; 4 children, Bruce (Lisa) Olson, Brian (Sara) Olson, Diane (Tim) Seland and Jon (Teresa) Olson; 17 grandchildren, Lucas (Laine) Sprecher, Kristen Sprecher, Grant (Anna) Olson, Kyle, Jay, Molly, Tyler Olson, Chad (Danielle) Clemment, Christopher (Dawn) Clemment, Paige (Delbert Jr.) Welch, Lee (Tatiana) Berger, Adam, Alyssa, Dustin, Brady Seland, Alex and Sadie Olson; 6 great grandchildren, Hayden, Hudson, Jackson, Lucas, Ever and Delilah (soon to arrive); siblings Mae Jacobson, Howard (Anita) Olson, Fred (Irene) Olson and Lillian (Ken) Leis; many nieces and nephews and a special friend Lyle Peterson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters Debra Sprecher and JoAnne Olson and a sister Ordella Olson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday April 30, 2014 at the Coon Valley Lutheran Church with Rev. Mitzi Miyamoto officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley and at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until service time. Memorials may be given to Norseland Nursing Home, Coon Valley Lutheran Church or Norskedalen.
