Albert "Al" Schwartz

Albert "Al" Schwartz, 84, of Viroqua, died Thursday October 22, 2009 at his home. He was born August 20, 1925 in Monroe, Wis. to Albert and Mary (Westgard) Schwartz. He was U.S. Army World War II veteran. On April 1, 1949 Albert married Carol DeBoth in Dubuque, Iowa. The couple lived in Milwaukee and raised a family until 1980 when they moved to their hobby farm in Antigo. In 1989 they moved to Brodhead and since June 1994 Albert has lived in Viroqua. Carol passed away April 12, 2008. Albert worked for 31 years at Jos. Schlitz Brewing Company. He was a past commander of the VFW Post in Milwaukee and enjoyed collecting coins, walking and visiting with people and dogs daily.

Survivors include four children; daughter Ann Marie (Thomas) Smith of Onalaska, 3 sons David of Sun City, Ariz., Tom (Sue) of Anacortes, Wash., and Alan (Mary) of Central Point, Oregon; 7 grandchildren Kimberly, Jason, Debbie, Rachael, Carol, Nicki and Vito; 10 great grandchildren; one brother Glen (Mary) of Monroe; nieces, nephews and many dear friends in and around the Viroqua area.

In addition to his wife Carol, he was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter-in-law Carol; two sisters Marge and Rachael and his dog Penney.

Friends and family are invited for a visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday October 26, 2009 at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley with a prayer service at 6:45 p.m. Private burial will be at Mormon Coulee Memorial Park.
