Reuben K. Johnson

November 13, 1919 ~ June 22, 2018 (age 98)

Reuben K. Johnson, 98, of rural Coon Valley died Friday June 22, 2018 at Vernon Manor in Viroqua. He was born November 13, 1919 to Hans and Palma (Holen) Johnson on Rognstad Ridge near Cashton.  He was baptized and confirmed at Moen Lutheran Church, rural Cashton.  Reuben farmed for several years on his home farm until entering the U.S. Army and serving from 1945 – 1946.  Upon returning home he farmed for several more years before working for a company laying telephone lines and surveying in Wisconsin and Minnesota.  Reuben moved to Pumpkin Ridge, rural Chaseburg and farmed for several more years and then worked for Lindevig Sales and Service installing silo unloaders and remodeling barns.  Reuben married Doris Mathison on October 19, 1988 and they lived on the Mathison farm near Coon Valley. Doris died June 20, 2017. He was a member of the Vang Lutheran Church and the Coon Valley American Legion Post #116.

Survivors include his nieces and nephews, Mike and Sue Schroeder, Steven and Patt Larson, Betty and Dale Hanson, Sarah and Jim Von Ruden, Nancy Larson, Lucy Larson, Julie and Mark Olson, Margaret Mulligan and Mark Johnson; and many great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Doris, a brother Alvin (Hazel) Johnson; a sister, Hilda (Alvin) Larson; a nephew, Harlan Johnson and nieces, Karen Pike and Bonnie Larson. 

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday June 27, 2018 at the Vang Lutheran Church, rural Westby.  Rev. Julie Wollman will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in the church cemetery.  A visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until service time.  The Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley is assisting the family.  Online condolences may be given at selandsfuneralhome.com.  Memorials may be given to the Vang Lutheran Church.
