DeVerne Seland, Funeral Director
De Verne graduated from Viroqua High School in 1948 and received his Mortuary Science Degree from the University of Minnesota in 1959. He was in the U.S. Army from 1952-1953, serving in Korea during the Korean Conflict. He served his apprenticeship with the Elver Funeral Home in Viroqua, Wis., and worked at Goodrich Funeral Home in Durand, Wis., until 1965, when he purchased the Gilbertson Funeral Home in Coon Valley. It then became Seland Funeral Home. His son, Mark, purchased the funeral home in 1995, and De Verne continued to work with him until his health prevented him from doing so. He had served on numerous boards and organizations throughout the years. He married  Lil Norby on September 12, 1959. DeVerne went home to heaven on April 11, 2010 at the age of 79 after battling leukemia for 2 1/2 years. His legacy, generosity and compassion will be greatly missed but lives on through his family and the lives of all the people he touched throughout his life - both as a friend and a funeral director.
